Today we lost to Acalanes but it feels like we won, cuz it was by one point and Viz didnt run and Emerson had a bad race. With those two factors plus the Acalanes factors that didnt do well, we would have won, and it would have been close, as long as everyone on both teams did their best. Im psyched cuz its the first 3 mile race ive ever completed and i love it, i came in as the second campo guy. Some glory is taken out of that cuz Viz owns me and i know Emerson can beat Tom, who was our first guy, but i was still 2nd for Campo in a race against Acalanes, who are ranked 1st in NCS and we only lost by one point. After me the pack was close, we packed Jed, Kelson, somewhere in there was Emerson, and Harland very close, within less than 30 seconds! Our overall pack time was under a minute for top five! It seriously doesnt feel like we lost at all to me, but i think some other guys were bummed, whatever. I know that we have a better team so it doesnt even matter that we wont finish undefeated. I also fell in my race. Coming out of the trail onto the road, there was a part that was really steep, but only 3 feet tall, and i was turning going through it and lost my footing then fell and landed on my knees, then rolled. I wasnt having any of that so i yelled "FUCK THAT!!!" in front of a large group of spectators and got up and ran the uphill, which i did pretty slow, but caught myself and up-tempoed, turning around then taking the downhill at a good pace for 1.25 miles until i finished. In the beginning, i was on Mooney's ass then lost it on my fall, but he didnt beat me by too much of a margin, and Tom eventually overtook him. Kyle and Jed also put in great teamwork for the downhill, and Chris followed not too far behind. We ran with heart is what im getting at, everyone knew they had to do well to compensate for Viz not running so everyone put in their best, and it was awesome. Winning is not always the most important thing, its heart. Cross country is awesome! I forgot to mention that we stationed by a whole bunch of lady bugs, and now they keep falling outa my hair.
